Zoonosis

Zoonosis, 2021
graphite and collage on paper, 120 x 100 cm

Zoonosis merges animals from vintage nature books with graphite drawings of human organs, bones and body parts - reflecting my interest in ecology and the interconnection of different life forms. The title Zoonosis refers to the transference of viruses between different species, with COVID-19 being a recent example of this. While my work contains optimism about human adaptation and a deep fascination in nature, there are also darker references to the scope of human impact on the animal kingdom and our own peril at this transformation. ~ Erin Coates
